Montalcino, not only Brunello Wine
Do you know Montalcino? Yes you do, but maybe only because you know the famous wine, Brunello, which is the automatic association with Montalcino.
Brunello wine is world-famous and many tourists go to Montalcino because of it. But today I would like to bring your attention to another aspect of Montalcino, the Abbey of Sant’Antimo. This Romanesque Abbey, located 6 miles from the town in a spectacular setting, was built in the XI-XII century, using local travertine and alabaster, which give it a particular light. In the Abbey are Benedictine Monks, characterised by their white robes, which are a symbol of their devotion to Mary.
The location is stunning and the Abbey is beautiful, but what makes a visit truly unique is monks' daily singing of Gregorian chants. All information about their services and chants are on the web site www.antimo.it.www.antimo.it.
